A Different Christmas Day for Us

On Christmas Day we left the apartment around 9:00 a.m. to go on a bus to a Young Single Adult Ball in Donetsk, the city south of us where the mission home is located. Young adults from all over Ukraine came to the Ball. The women brought their beautiful gowns with them, and the men had their white shirts, ties, and suits. We arrived in Donetsk about 6:00 in the evening, and after changing clothes, the event commenced with a special Christmas message by one of our leaders. This was followed by a service project making blankets for one of the local children’s homes. The project was very well organized, and everyone participated. A dinner catored by one of the young adults was then served, followed by dancing the rest of the night. During the dance there were dance exhibitions by some of the young adults who came from the different cities. We saw some excellent dancing. Elder and Sister Reed, believe it or not, danced until 5:00 a.m. along with all the young singles! At this time Father Christmas gave a little gift to each person there. Shortly after, we boarded our bus and slept most of the way home. We had a great time at the Ball and look forward to the event next year.

While waiting for everyone to arrive for the bus, we went to a nearby market to buy some snacks for the trip. Father Christmas and his elf were there.

Sounds like lots of fun. Hope you felt the Spirit of Christmas, regardless of how it was spent. :)

I think this looks really fun! I’m glad you guys danced all night. What stamina! How was the orphanage? Did they have enough supplies and everything? Are the boys’ heads shaved because of lice? Are they abandoned children because of disabilities? Or the parents send them there because they can’t take care of them on their own? Just curios. I’m sure I’ll talk to you about it later.

It looks like our favorite Ukrainian Missionaries are doing great. I am so happy that you are enjoying your missions so much. I love seeing the pictures and hearing of your experiences. It is so wonderful to know that Christmas is really celebrated the world around. It is no wonder, since Christ is the Savior of the World. If only all could come to understand that. The Young Adults are amazing. Your comments sound like you are having the time of your lives. We have truly been blessed this year. I am ever so grateful for friends and family. Thank you for being wonderful. We love you so much. Ken and Linda
