A Great Family Home Evening
Last Friday evening we went to visit the home of Ela, a Branch member, and her son, Nathan. The Reeds planned a FHE for them about the beauty of this earth which Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, created to us. We talked about how blessed we are to be able to live here and enjoy all the wonderful creations made for us. After the lesson we went to a nearby park, each of us with a sack in hand, to find some of these amazing things we talked about. We all came back with our “treasures” and shared them with each other. And, of course, the FHE ended with a treat of ice cream and cookies. It was such a great evening with Ela and Nathan, and we love getting to know them better.
Among Nathan’s treasures were two bird’s eggs which the little birds had broken to find their place in this world. He was pretty proud of his “find.” Sister Reed has the special privilege of teaching Nathan in Primary on Sunday. He is smart, talented, and knows how to say beautiful prayers.
Nathan’s Mom, Ela, is a lovely woman and a great Mom to Nathan. She has a smile and sparkling eyes that can cheer anyone. She had some pretty good treasures, too.
One of Elder Reed’s treasures was a live insect, which immediately captured Nathan’s attention. We made sure they made it to the great outdoors at the end of our show and tell.
One of Sister Reed’s treasures was unique to the rest, a mushroom from the forest floor.
This beautiful fountain was in the center of the park. On the inside circular wall of the fountain the names of the twelve apostles from the New Testament were engraved on blocks of stone.
A good way to end the evening – ice cream, cookies, and warm, friendly conversation.
