Sister Reed has had opportunities to teach some piano lessons while in Kharkov. Piano players are few and far between in the church here, so we try to encourage interest in the development of this skill. Sister Reed has taught one of our Institute members, adding a bit more to her skills after basic instruction from another senior missionary a couple of years ago. She is now playing in Relief Society meetings.

Tanya, a seminary student, is Sister Reed’s student this summer. She has been playing, haltingly, in her Branch sacrament meetings, and asked if she could have more instruction. We have a lesson once a week, and she is doing quite well. There is a simplified book of hymns from which we teach, and also a complete instruction manual for the teacher, flash cards, etc. to use in the lessons. This comes through the Harman Grant which provides this wonderful instruction to encourage the love of music in our meetings and gatherings throughout the world.

Concentration time

Success! Tanya has learned how to play a new hymn.

When I grow up, I hope to be able to play hymns on the piano too. :)
